In late September, President Donald Trump issued a national security memorandum directing a crackdown on perpetrators of an “assault against democratic institutions, constitutional rights, and fundamental civil liberties.” This order, Federal Register Document 2025-19141 , clearly is meant to target anyone who opposes his authoritarian regime. People or organizations could be investigated and prosecuted as “domestic terrorists” if they show “hostility towards those who hold traditional American views on family, religion, and morality.” Such people and organizations are purported to be part of a vast network trying to “foment political violence” and “disrupt the functioning of a democratic society.”
