A Hunterdon County man is facing charges after an accidental shooting on Oct. 20 at a Flanders pizzeria, the Morris County prosecutor announced.

William H. Schmieding, 70, of White House Station, has been charged with two counts of aggravated assault, violating safe carry firearm requirements, and prohibited carrying of a firearm, Prosecutor Robert Carroll said in a release.

Schmieding, who has a permit to carry a handgun, was dining with friends at Frank’s Pizza on Route 206. Authorities said that the investigation revealed that Schmieding removed a handgun from his holster in an attempt to clear ammunition, which resulted in the gun firing.

The shot struck an 89-year-old woman in her left leg. The victim was taken to a local hospital and in stable condition.
