HERNANDO, Miss. - A second Mid-South animal shelter ceased dog intake operations due to an outbreak of parvovirus.

The Hernando Animal Shelter announced the closing on Tuesday. The animal shelter said a parvovirus-positive puppy was brought into the shelter recently, prompting the 10-day closure on dog intake.

The shelter hopes to reopen on October 30.

"Parvo is a highly contagious virus, especially in a shelter environment, and we are taking every precaution to protect the health and safety of the dogs in our care," the animal shelter said.

The closure comes a day after the Bartlett Animal Shelter closed because of a Parvo infection.
