The Cass County Sheriff’s Department says it’s identified a suspect in an animal cruelty case involving two dogs that it’s been investigating since last month.
The department says Cass County Animal Control on September 30 received the two dogs found as strays from the 10,000 block of Pioneer Street in Marcellus Township. The animals were emaciated and dehydrated upon intake, and one of the dogs appeared to be blind.
The dogs were examined by a veterinarian and found to have no parasites or other factors that would cause their condition other than lack of care.
Since being taken in for care, the dogs have gained weight and are now healthy enough to receive vaccines, although the blind dog will need surgery to have her eyes removed.
