Washington: U.S. President Donald Trump has reiterated that Prime Minister Narendra Modi assured him India would reduce its oil imports from Russia, a claim that has stirred debate amid ongoing trade negotiations and diplomatic balancing between Washington and New Delhi.

Speaking at a recent rally, Trump said he “spoke to Prime Minister Modi” and was told that India “is not going to buy much oil from Russia.” While the remark echoes Trump’s earlier statements about pressuring key partners to limit trade with Moscow, India has not confirmed any such discussion.
