FARGO — Children traded spooky scares for a sensory-friendly experience at the Red River Zoo on Tuesday evening, Oct. 21.
The Blue Boo event welcomed children with autism and others who may be uncomfortable with the loud sounds and screams typical of Halloween. Even on a chilly night, kids were able to trick-or-treat, feel animal furs, and meet some of the zoo’s animals.
"I love Halloween, and I think that every child deserves to experience the fun of trick or treating at their own level and in a way that's non-threatening or comfortable for them. So we're excited," said Sally Mulvena, president of the Red River Zoo.
Zoo officials said this is a one-time event for the season, but they hope to bring it back next year. The zoo’s regular "Boo at the Zoo" will hold its final event on Saturd
