SHELBYVILLE, Ky. — The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) will not pay out Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits in November if the government shutdown continues.
The government shutdown's effect are slowly trickling into daily life as millions of Americans rely on SNAP to help with their grocery bills.
Over 600,000 Kentuckians will now lose SNAP, or food stamps, for the month of November and in Indiana, even more than 600,000 people rely on these benefits.
In Shelby County, the local food banks are bracing for an influx of families who might turn to community pantries to feed their families.
