ATLANTA — "Whatever he had in his mind that he was going to do, I was there to stop it."

Those were the words of the brave Atlanta Police officer who spotted 49-year-old Billy Cagle at the Atlanta airport on Monday and subdued the man who authorities say planned to shoot up the South Terminal of Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport with a semi-automatic rifle.

Cagle, a Cartersville resident, showed up to the airport just after 9 a.m. after U.S. Attorney Theodore S. Hetzberg said that Cagle was on a FaceTime call with family where he allegedly threatened to "shoot up the airport" on the call while he was driving. Cagle also allegedly said, "I'm at the airport, and I'm gonna go rat-a-tat-tat" before he abruptly ended the call.
