FRANKLIN, Ky. (WBKO) - Recently, the city of Franklin proposed the building of a data center, sparking controversy within the community.
On Tuesday night, a protest was held outside of the Franklin Police Department regarding the proposal of the data center. Then afterwards at 6:30 p.m., the Franklin Planning and Zoning Commission held a public hearing regarding the proposal.
In just one week, local protest organizer Jasmine Butt collected over 1,700 signatures from Franklin citizens against the proposed data center.
“These data centers that use more electricity. It’s more detrimental to the environment,” Butt said. “And it’s also ones that are very noisy. They’re not going to promote a lot of jobs. And they’re going to take away from the community than put into the community.”
