CHICO, Calif. - The driver of a vehicle involved in a hit-and-run crash involving a scooter in Chico was taken into custody on Tuesday after the California Highway Patrol located the vehicle on Highway 99.

Authorities say that at around 6:49 p.m. on Tuesday, officers with the Chico Police Department responded to the area of E. 20th Street near Highway 99 after receiving reports of a hit and run crash.

Upon arrival at the scene, officers found a person who was riding a scooter that had been hit by a vehicle.

The Chico Police Department says that witnesses at the scene reported that a white sedan had hit the scooter, causing a serious but non-life-threatening injury to the person on the scooter.

A second witness provided officers with the suspect vehicle's license plate number.
