An Edinburgh pilot nosedived to the ground after a mid-air collision during a competition .

Philip Dolan, 67, lost his life when his aircraft entered a barrel roll and fell 'at more than 100mph', an inquest has heard. Mr Dolan, a retired petroleum engineer from the capital, was an experienced glider pilot taking part in the event on August 17, 2023.

He was above Melton and was gaining height at approximately 2,500ft when the collision happened, reports Leicestershire Live .
