South Australia ’s attorney general is challenging the decision to release one of the state’s most notorious killers.
Kyam Maher has called for a review of the Parole Board’s ruling to free James Vlassakis — the youngest of the four men behind the infamous Snowtown “bodies-in-the-barrels” murders between 1992 and 1999.
A decision was made in August to grant Vlassakis, now in his mid-40s, parole after serving 26 years of a life sentence.
No release date has yet been set.
He was found guilty of being involved in four of the 12 murders related to the Snowtown killings — including two of his own family members — and later became a key witness in the prosecution of ringleaders John Bunting and Robert Wagner, who are both serving life in jail without parole.
