A sunrise over Gaza City on Wednesday revealed the vast devastation of two years of war, as a fragile ceasefire between Hamas and Israel appears to hold.

While the U.S.-proposed ceasefire has been tested by fighting and mutual accusations of violations since it began on October 10, both Israel and Hamas have said they are committed to the deal.

The next stages are expected to focus on disarming Hamas, Israeli withdrawal from additional areas it controls in Gaza, and future governance of the devastated territory.

The U.S. plan proposes the establishment of an internationally backed authority.
