ROCHESTER, Vt. (WCAX) - The aftermath of a disaster is still lingering on this day in history.

On October 22, 2011, a big clean-up day took place nearly 2 months after the devastating flooding from Tropical Storm Irene.

Channel 3’s Susie Steiml visited one of the hardest hit towns.

“Two weeks ago, Governor Shumlin called volunteers from around the state to pitch in again Saturday, hoping for one last push before winter weather sets in,” reported Steiml in Rochester. “40 homes in Rochester sustained damage from Irene, 8 of those are not going to be rebuilt.”

“It’s hard to believe that there are places that don’t get what’s going on here still,” said Rochester Volunteer Coordinator Cynthia Ryan.

Full clean-up and repairs from the storm took years to complete.
