LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Jefferson County Republican Party has chosen their candidate to run for the open state senate seat left by Democrat David Yates, the popular former Kentucky senator who's now the interim Jefferson County clerk.
"The opponent that we're going to face in December is not going to be anywhere near as tough as the one who I just went up against, and it's in a special election. Anything can happen," Republican Calvin Leach said. "So I believe that we do have a chance."
Leach was on the ballot less than year ago. It was last November when he lost to Yates by 20 points, though Leach believes a vacant seat this time around helps his chances.
"The big difference this time is I'm going to have a lot more help," Leach told WHAS11 in an interview shortly after officially launch
