Synopsis: About 22,000 Corporation personnel, including engineers, staff, and conservancy workers, have been deployed along with 2,149 field staff from the Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board to carry out relief works.

The Greater Chennai Corporation has set up 215 relief camps and 106 community kitchens across the rain-lashed city to support residents affected by the heavy downpour.

The Regional Meteorological Centre in Chennai has warned of very heavy rainfall in isolated places, even as a low-pressure system over the southwest Bay of Bengal gathered strength.

Of the 106 community kitchens, 68 are currently operational, providing food to those relocated in shelters. On Wednesday, 22 October, breakfast was served to 1,46,950 people, according to Corporation officials.
