Storm Benjamin is set to batter the UK with heavy downpours and winds of more than 70mph this week, forecasters have warned.

The storm, as named by Meteo France, is likely to impact the UK on Wednesday night (October 22) and Thursday, the Met Office has said.

The UK weather agency has issued three yellow weather warnings in a number of areas on Thursday (October 23). Strong winds and heavy rain could cause disruption, flooding, power cuts and damage to buildings, with eastern England most affected.

The warnings come amid speculation about a named storm hitting the UK. While many expected the next UK storm to be named Bram , the Met Office chose not to name it. Instead, France's weather agency named the system Storm Benjamin - a name all nations will now use. Storm
