COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) - As Coloradans know, wintry weather can hit almost any time in the state -- and troopers want to make sure drivers are prepared!

Colorado State Patrol has announced a chain check operation for commercial vehicles happening on I-70 Thursday near Dotsero.

“Chain check operations are held when the weather is not expected to be inclement. This ensures commercial and private drivers are prepared at all times as required by Colorado law,” State Patrol said.

Last year, Colorado updated its chain laws to require all large vehicles (classified as weighing more than 16,000 pounds) to carry chains between Sept. 1-May 31 .

“The primary focus of [Thursday’s] event will be to enforce Colorado’s must-carry chain law,” State Patrol said.
