A Frost Advisory has been issued for portions of central and southern Iowa from 2 a.m. to 9 a.m. CDT Thursday , as overnight temperatures are expected to drop to around 30 degrees .

According to the National Weather Service , these cold conditions will lead to frost formation , which could damage or kill sensitive outdoor vegetation if left unprotected.

Residents across the advisory area are encouraged to take precautions now to protect tender plants and flowers. Experts recommend covering outdoor vegetation or bringing potted plants indoors before temperatures begin to fall late tonight.

The advisory serves as a reminder that Iowa’s growing season is nearing its end , with colder weather settling in as October continues.
