CALHOUN COUNTY, Mich. (WILX) - The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office rescued about 68 dogs from a home in Newton Township on Tuesday, October 21, during an investigation into suspected animal neglect.
Deputies responded around 11:30 a.m. to a home in the 8000 block of 8 1/2 Mile Road after getting a tip about possible neglect.
When they arrived, they spoke with the homeowner, a 68-year-old woman, who permitted them to search the house.
Inside, deputies found unsanitary and dangerous conditions, including large amounts of animal waste and a strong smell of urine.
Many of the dogs and cats appeared to be in poor health, and a deceased dog was found in the backyard.
