Firefighters are battling a two-alarm blaze aboard a barge docked in the industrial canal in Harvey on Wednesday morning, according to Jefferson Parish officials.

The fire was reported to be under control as of 8:22 a.m., according to Assistant Chief Michael McAuliffe with Harvey Volunteer Fire Co. No. 2.

But Peters Road remains closed in the 3400 block as crews continue to extinguish the fire.

No injuries have been reported, though one firefighter was checked out by medical services on scene.

"He is ok," McAuliffe said.

The fire was reported about 5 a.m. on an inland drilling barge docked at 3450 Peters Road. The barge has about 4,000 gallons of diesel fuel on board, but there is no indication that the gas has ignited, thus far, according to McAuliffe.
