Some 42 million Americans who rely on the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program to buy food are concerned about the continuing federal government shutdown.
Queen Stokes is one of them. She worries about the “what ifs” and what will happen if the shutdown continues and SNAP runs out of money — potentially leaving her without November’s SNAP benefits.
“I am a single person on disability right now,” Stokes told WBAL-TV 11 News. “It’s going to be a struggle. It is. It’s going to be a real struggle because the little bit I do get helps me out, but it doesn’t help me all month. So, if they take it away, I won’t have anything.”
U.S. Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins posted on X that there will not be enough funds for SNAP benefits come Nov. 1 because of the government shutdown.
