A homicide investigation is underway after an unresponsive woman was found with severe injuries in Bridgeport on Tuesday night and later died and police said they found a child alone nearby.

Officers originally responded to the 200 block of Black Rock Avenue around 9:30 p.m. for a report of an abandoned child on the front porch of a home. There, they said they found the child and then found the woman injured on the street nearby.

Police said the woman, later identified as 24-year-old Evelyn Rayo-Mairena, of Bridgeport, was lying on the street and was unresponsive.
