A vacant township property in Matheson could soon become home to a new childcare centre.

At its Oct. 16 meeting, the Cochrane District Services Board (CDSB) approved moving forward with plans to buy a three-acre parcel of land and an old township hall at 429 Park Lane from the Township of Black River-Matheson for $1.

The transfer would allow the Cochrane District Local Housing Corporation (CDLHC) to build a new one-storey childcare centre on the site, while also keeping future residential development in mind.

CDSB director of children’s services Shannon Costello said the initiative has been months in the making.
