HOMER — Strong mountain goat populations and limited success during early-season drawing hunts have prompted the Alaska Department of Fish and Game to open two late-season registration hunts on the Kenai Peninsula.
The additional hunts — RG362 in Sadie Cove and RG375 in English Bay — will each offer six permits and run from November 1 through November 14.
Permits become available Friday, October 24 at 9 a.m., and can be obtained online at hunt.alaska.gov or in person at Fish and Game offices in Anchorage, Homer, Palmer, and Soldotna.
Late-season opportunities are determined by low harvest numbers from earlier hunts. The department uses a “goat point” system to manage harvest levels, with one point assigned for a billy and two points for a nanny.
Hunters are encouraged to target billies
