PASSAIC, Mo. (KCTV) - President Donald Trump is floating the idea of the U.S. buying more beef products from Argentina to try to tackle high prices at the grocery store.

The U.S. has been facing surging beef prices because of drought and fewer imports from Mexico as a parasite is affecting cattle there, but climbing prices are nothing new. Beef prices have risen over the last 20 years in the U.S. due to a shrinking cattle herd while beef remains popular among consumers.

American cattle ranchers aren’t too happy with President Trump’s idea.

At Mo-Kan Livestock in Passaic they buy, raise and feed cows while also processing the meat on site. The owner said this business isn’t always glamorous and is expensive. He’s afraid outsourcing meat will only shortchange hard-working American cattle
