HILLSBORO, Ore. — On Tuesday, Oct. 14, masked federal agents in an unmarked car pulled over Victor Cruz in Hillsboro and detained him, despite his protected status and work permit, according to his family.

From their understanding, agents were looking for a different man with the same name, but with a specific criminal background. His wife and daughter told told KGW that although those agents acknowledged a mismatch, they decided to detain their Victor Cruz anyway.

"He got out willingly out of his truck and presented his papers, his work permit, his driver's license, and the ICE agents said, your work permit, it doesn't matter," said Atziri Cruz, Victor's daughter, "So they just tossed it to the side.
