Finding affordable housing in Westport isn’t easy — a significant number of residents spend 30 to 50 percent of their income to keep a roof over their heads, the town’s population is aging, land is expensive, adequate infrastructure needed to increase the housing stock is lacking in many parts of town, and many homes are vacant for much of the year. But a new housing production plan approved by the planning board weeks ago and by the select board Monday, aims to increase the number of affordable homes here over the next five years while giving Westport tools to guide it, and not have it dictated.
