EAST LANSING, Mich. (WILX) - Michigan State University President Kevin M. Guskiewicz has provided a detailed update on the university’s ongoing financial challenges, which have led to significant budget cuts across the institution.

In a letter to the MSU community, Guskiewicz acknowledged the difficult decisions required to address a projected budget deficit.

While MSU’s state funding increased by 2.1 percent this year, amounting to $333.8 million, he noted that this increase had already been factored into the university’s budget plan and does not represent new or additional revenue.

Furthermore, the state has designated this funding increase as a one-time adjustment, complicating the university’s long-term financial planning.
