The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is advising the public to be wary of certain egg products after a company discovered their products could contain salmonella.

Salmonella bacteria can cause illnesses usually between 12 and 72 hours after eating the contaminated food and the symptoms last four to seven days. Symptoms include diarrhea, fever and abdominal pain cramps.

Children younger than 5, older adults and those with weakened immune systems are more likely to have severe infections, the administration said.

This advisory relates to a recall for eggs from Black Sheep Egg Company of Walnut Ridge, Arkansas.
