Gilbert Town Council approved the Willowbrook residential development after staff and the developer added traffic safety improvements to address residents’ concerns about congestion and left-turn safety on Riggs Road.
The 91-lot subdivision is planned for 26.4 acres at 156th Street and Riggs Road. The council had delayed the case in August so staff could study traffic options after residents said it was difficult and dangerous to turn left from the area.
Senior Planner Kristen Devine said the developer sought rezoning from SF-43 to SF-6 with a planned area development overlay and a general plan amendment increasing density from up to one home per acre to up to 3.5.
