The Aura San Tan mixed-use development has gained Gilbert Town Council approval after the applicant expanded its commercial space to address earlier concerns that the project lacked enough nonresidential uses.
The project, located on about 14 acres southeast of Val Vista Drive and Pecos Road, amends the general plan from regional commercial to a higher-density residential category and rezones the property to mixed-use large with a planned area development overlay. The proposal includes 357 apartments and about 35,000 square feet of office and retail space.
Council approved the general plan amendment and rezoning 5–2 with Vice Mayor Bobbi Buchli and Councilmember Jim Torgeson dissenting.
