After over 50 years in the Loveland community, the downtown Safeway at 860 N. Cleveland Ave. is set to shutter its doors Saturday, according to signage in the store.
“I remember when I was a little kid walking here with my mom,” said Loveland native Richard Alvarez after getting discounted groceries Tuesday. He added that the Safeway on Cleveland Avenue has been his “home” because he can walk to it and get cheaper groceries there than at other downtown stores.
Safeway’s closure will affect 50 employees in Loveland, according to a letter sent to Karen Hoopes, the state Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) coordinator at the Colorado Department of Labor and Employment.
