STATESBORO, Ga. (WSAV) — During Tuesday's Statesboro City Council meeting, a Statesboro Police Department K9 was granted his retirement.
Smokey was a K9 officer with the department for over six years and during his career was partnered with APO Patrick Webb.
SPD said K9 Smokey was a "single purpose tracking K9" and he successfully located 28 people during his career.
The department said four people located who were missing or endangered persons and the other 24 were felony or misdemeanor arrests from tracks, which resulted in safe apprehensions without further incident.
Smokey and Webb also participated in hundreds of community events and reached people throughout the country, according to the department.
Now retired, Smokey will live out his life with Webb and his family.
