DES MOINES, Iowa (KWQC) - Iowa Auditor Rob Sand will review educator licensing and background-check procedures following the ICE arrest of the superintendent of the state’s largest school district.

Sand said his office received a request from a legislator to review the Iowa Department of Education and the Board of Education Examiners on Wednesday.

The request comes after three Republican Iowa state senators wrote to Sand on Oct. 8, rebuking him for not auditing the Des Moines Public Schools district after the ICE arrest of then-Superintendent Ian Roberts.

Sand responded that the district is audited every year, and a reaudit can only be requested by a school board member, a school employee or a citizen if misappropriation of public funds is suspected.
