BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (WBKO) -Former Warren County Sheriff Jerry “Peanuts” Gaines has died.

Warren County Sheriff Brett Hightower and the Warren County Coroner Kevin Kirby confirmed the former sheriff passed away in his home Wednesday afternoon.

Gaines served the community for half a century, first as a Warren County magistrate before serving nearly 40 years as sheriff.

He was elected president of the Kentucky Sheriff’s Association and the National Sheriff’s Association.

On January 23, 2025, officials honored Gaines by declaring the day “Jerry ‘Peanuts’ Gaines Day.”

Officials also unveiled the community and training room at the future Warren County Sheriff’s Office on Sugar Maple Square will be named after him.
