MIAMI, Fla. (WFLA) — An Uber driver is facing charges more than a year after investigators said he offered to give a tourist in Miami a ride, and then sexually assaulted her after she passed out in his car.
The Uber driver, Rafael Martinez, 42, was booked into jail in Miami-Dade County on Tuesday, Oct. 21, on one count of sexual battery of a physically helpless victim, according to jail records.
The incident was first reported to police on Jan. 26, 2024, an arrest affidavit said. The victim told detectives she and a friend were staying at an Airbnb in the Miami Beach area. The two of them had gone to a hotel bar to have drinks the night of the reported assault, on Jan. 25, 2024.
