A woman who was shot and killed in a Brampton, Ontario, parking lot has been identified as 29-year-old Savannah Kulla. The incident occurred on Tuesday afternoon, shortly before 2 p.m., when Peel Police responded to reports of gunfire in a plaza near Airport Road and Queen Street. Upon arrival, officers found Kulla suffering from gunshot wounds. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
The suspect, identified as 38-year-old Anthony Deschepper, reportedly fled the area after the shooting. Authorities issued an Amber Alert around 5 p.m. for his one-year-old daughter, who was believed to be in the vehicle with him. Fortunately, she was later found safe by police.
Deschepper was described as a white male, standing 5 feet 9 inches tall, weighing 175 pounds, with a thin build, short brown hair, hazel eyes, and a clean-shaven face. Kulla was a mother of four children, including three boys and a one-year-old girl, according to family members.
On Wednesday morning, Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) reported an officer-involved shooting in Niagara Falls, Ontario. NRPS and Peel Police had been searching for Deschepper since the previous night. At approximately 2:30 a.m., they located his vehicle at a gas station near Thorold Stone Road and Montrose Road. Following an interaction with police, Deschepper was pronounced dead at the scene. No officers were injured during this incident.
The Ontario Special Investigations Unit (SIU) has been called to investigate the circumstances surrounding the officer-involved shooting, and further details have not been released.
In the aftermath of Kulla's death, flowers have begun to appear at the site of the shooting. Peel Police have classified the incident as an intimate partner-related homicide. Deschepper was previously involved in a 2023 incident in Brampton where a gun was fired, but no injuries were reported, and he fled before police arrived. He was arrested weeks later in connection with that case.
