Dozens of federal agents are on their way to the Bay Area this week, a source with direct knowledge of the operation tells NBC Bay Area.

The source on Wednesday said 60 to 100 federal agents, including the U.S. Customs and Border Patrol, will arrive as soon as Thursday to Coast Guard Island in Alameda. The San Francisco Chronicle reports the movement is from the Trump administration carrying out a major immigration operation

"When similar deployments have occurred in other cities what we've seen are overly aggressive immigration enforcement tactics that lead to protests and civil unrest.
