KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - Bill Self is in an unfamiliar position. His Kansas Jayhawks arrived at Big 12 Media Days in Kansas City without the normal allure and expectations of being the league favorite.

Last week, coaches in the league picked the Jayhawks to finish sixth during the 2025-26 season, the lowest KU has ever been projected during the Bill Self era. The lower expectations follow Kansas’ worst season under Self, which ended in a first round NCAA Tournament loss for the first time since 2006.

“The difference this year is the unknown,” Self admitted Wednesday. “I don’t know what to expect, yet.”
