FAIRHOPE, Ala. (WKRG) — The Fairhope Docks Marina saw an unusual visitor on Sunday morning.

A video of a North American River Otter shows the animal relaxing and eating crabs on one of the marina's boats.

Otters, also known by their scientific name of Lontra canadensis, are most commonly found in rivers, creeks, and lakes.

Despite their cuddly appearance, their sharp teeth help them catch and hold on to their prey, perfect for cracking a crab's outer shell.

It is possible that the otter in the video is preparing for winter by resting and intensifying its grooming habits. Their dense, waterproof fur acts as a perfect coat as temperatures start to drop.
