WARWICK, R.I. (WPRI) — The Warwick Police Department commended three of its officers Wednesday for their courageous actions in rescuing a man from a submerged car over the weekend.

Officers Matthew Maloney, Nicholas Manocchio and Maxwell Neiley were the first to respond Saturday evening after a man drove into Apponaug Cove off Arnolds Neck Drive.

Warwick Police Chief Michael Lima said there was no time to hesitate.

"The officers made a split-second decision, removed their ballistic vests, duty belts, and body-worn cameras and put their own safety aside and entered the cold, dark water," Lima said.
