TUCSON, Ariz. — An inmate is dead following an officer-involved shooting at a Tucson hospital on Wednesday afternoon.

According to the Pima County Sheriff's Department, the officer-involved shooting happened at Banner University Medical Center South near Ajo Way and Country Club Road on Oct. 22.

Sheriff Chris Nanos said the incident happened before 1 p.m. The PCSD corrections officer reportedly was in a struggle with an inmate in the Banner South Emergency Room.

The corrections officer fired a round and struck the inmate, who died following the shooting.

The inmate, who was getting treatment at the hospital, was from the Pima County Adult Detention Center.
