OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - Ken Stoysich and his family have been butchers for more than six decades. He tells us he’s seen high beef prices hit meat counters before.

“Just one time when we had the beef shortage back in the ’70s, which was really nasty. It was really hard finding beef anywhere,” he said.

Ken says today’s high beef prices are due to the same problem: a shortage in domestic cattle herds.

“About a year and a half ago, we had a really bad calving season. Calves all turn into nice big beef, and unfortunately, during the drought and other storms that happened, a lot of the calves just didn’t make it. And so now we have a shortage,” he said.
