CHICAGO — A restraining order blocking the mobilization of National Guard troops in Illinois will remain in effect until a final judgment is issued in the state’s lawsuit challenging President Donald Trump’s move to federalize the troops.
U.S. District Judge April Perry issued a temporary restraining order earlier this month after ruling that the federal government did not meet the burden needed to send the National Guard into Illinois. Perry said that despite the government’s arguments, she found no rebellion in Illinois or Chicago and found that the federal government was still able to execute the law.
That temporary restraining order was set to expire Thursday. But on Tuesday, the Trump administration agreed to a 30-day extension of the order after appealing Perry’s ruling to the U.S.
