KENTWOOD, Mich. — Almost a week later, a woman is recounting the moment a fire at her apartment complex in Kentwood forced her and her two children to jump out the window to escape.

The fire, which began on Oct. 16 around 7:30 a.m., was at Breton Court Apartments located in the 4600 block of N Breton Court SE.

Jennifer Diedrieks said she can smile now, but last week, it was a different story.

“He was yelling, Jennifer, get out. Jennifer, get out. But we couldn't get out, because when we opened the door to get out, the flames were, you know, rushing at our door,” said Diederiks.

Captured on her Ring doorbell camera, the fire erupted outside Diederiks’ apartment door.
