A delegation from the Timmins Symphony Orchestra is asking the city for yearly financial support so they can move to a new dedicated facility.
Speaking to council Oct. 14, orchestra board member Cameron Grant argued that if the city could see to it to grant them anywhere from $50,000 to $100,000 as an annual operating grant, it would help convince larger funders to come up with matching funds or better, as the orchestra goes about fundraising for “a new home.”

Grant explained that funders such as the Ontario Arts Council, Ontario Cultural Attractions Fund, Canadian Heritage Grants, the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund and the Trillium Fund like to see robust support from the local municipality to add to the symphony’s existing private sector support.
