BRAINERD — Several area state legislators released statements Wednesday, Oct. 22, following the Minnesota Supreme Court’s ruling that a transgender powerlifter was discriminated against based on gender identity, violating the Minnesota Human Rights Act.

In news releases, the legislators noted both House File 12 and House File 1233 would have addressed the issue but were blocked by House Democrats. The bills remain ready for action when the House reconvenes on Feb. 17, 2026.
