WALNUT RIDGE, Ark. (Gray News) - A recall alert has been issued for eggs that were distributed in several states over salmonella contamination concerns.

According to the Food and Drug Administration , the recall was initiated late last month involving the Black Sheep Egg Company in Arkansas.

Officials said the FDA initiated an inspection at the egg processing facility and collected environmental samples. Of the samples collected, 40 environmental samples were positive for salmonella.

The Black Sheep Egg said it issued a recall for its 12-count and 18-count cartons of Free Range Large Grade A Brown Eggs over potential salmonella contamination.

The initial recall affected eggs with best by dates from Aug. 22 to Oct. 31 with UPC codes: 860010568507 and 860010568538.
