AMNICON TOWNSHIP, Wis. (Northern News Now) - Two people died in a head-on collision in Amnicon Township on Wednesday afternoon.

According to Douglas County officials, a vehicle was driving northbound in the southbound lanes between Berg Park Rd. and Kent Rd. colliding head-on with the southbound vehicle.

Northbound and southbound Highway 53 are closed until further notice for crash response.

The crash happened at Highway 53 and Berg Park Road around 2 p.m. A Life Flight helicopter was en route to the scene; however, it was canceled.

The two victims were the drivers and sole occupants of the vehicles that collided.

The victims’ identities have not yet been released.
